Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with air barely moving and a falling glass. Give structure within a cast of the bank the first hour at Moose Lake. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Sublette County entry here is Moose Lake, in Wyoming. What surrounds it is lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 13 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. For supplies, Pinedale is 22 miles out. Beyond it, Fort Washakie at 31 miles and Lander at 36 miles. The nearest boundary is a fair way off. The country round the bank is quiet, with little traffic on the road in.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Sublette County: brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Moose Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between January at about 15°F and July at about 53°F, the water has a wide range to work through. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice-out usually falls in late May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Expect the water usable from around late May until roughly early November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Plan any trip to Moose Lake around it.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Knob Lakes is 0.6 miles off. Nothing on Moose Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
