A grey, even sky over the water, with light air out of the WNW with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lake Louise should come off inflow corners and shaded margins. The evening is where the day comes good. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

You will find Lake Louise in Fremont County, Wyoming. It lies 8,389 feet above sea level. It runs to roughly 68 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With about 1.2 miles of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Pinedale is the closest place, 40 miles off. Fort Washakie is 46 miles away, with Ethete at 50 miles. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name brown trout, rainbow trout and white sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Lake Louise decides where the fish sit.
The seasonal spread runs 17°F to 49°F. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Once it clears, about early June, the fishing comes on quickly. The lid tends to go about early June and return around early November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. That is the shape of the year on Lake Louise.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Somewhere to sit and eat is half a mile out. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Hidden Lake is 1.3 miles off. Signs at Lake Louise carry more weight than any list.
