An even grey lid over the water, with mild air moving in from the NNW and the barometer on the way down. On Jessie Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Sublette County end of Wyoming holds Jessie Lake. This is rolling bush ground. About 10 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Sublette County list. Some 25 miles away sits Pinedale, the nearest settlement. Further out sit Fort Washakie (30 miles) and Lander (33 miles). No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Sublette County, recorded fish include brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Jessie Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 51°F, while January sits near 13°F. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early June. Climate figures give an open season running early June to early November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It sets the rhythm of the year at Jessie Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Shoestring Lake, 0.7 miles away. Ask locally about Jessie Lake if anything is unclear.
