Hard light and clear air over the water, with a light chop building from the SSW with a softening glass. Most of the action on Moose Lake should come off the calm side of the wind. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Moose Lake sits in Douglas County, out in Wisconsin. The setting is pine and birch. About 13 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Douglas County list. Head to Lake Nebagamon, 13 miles away, for anything you forgot. After that come Superior at 23 miles and Duluth at 27 miles. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and black crappie. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Read Moose Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Averages move between 8°F in January and 67°F in July. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid April. The water is typically free of ice between mid April and late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Moose Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Access is not recorded for this water. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Three Bucks Lakes is 3 miles distant. Confirm access to Moose Lake locally before you travel.
