No direct sun expected today, with the water lying quiet with pressure climbing. On Crescent Lake, work any hard bottom among the soft first. If you pick one session, make it the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Crescent Lake is one of the Regional District of Central Kootenay waters in British Columbia. It sits at 757 metres above sea level. At 8 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Some 23 km away sits Fruitvale, the nearest settlement. Salmo is 23 km away, with Trail at 31 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Regional District of Central Kootenay cover rainbow trout, sockeye salmon, mountain whitefish and largescale sucker. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Crescent Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Averages move between -5°C in January and 17°C in August. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Break-up comes around late March, and the run that follows is short and strong. In an average year the thaw lands around late March and the freeze near late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. That shapes the year on Crescent Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Overnight stays are possible about 180 m out, where camping is mapped. Public toilets are recorded roughly 170 m off. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Lomond Lake at 1.9 km is the nearest alternative. Ask locally about Crescent Lake if anything is unclear.
