A grey, even sky over the water, with an easy breeze from the WSW as pressure slides. Activity on Pigpen Lakes should centre on points where shallow meets deep. The strongest window runs from night into morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Pigpen Lakes is one of the Marion County waters in South Carolina. The bank is 13 feet above sea level. Small at around 2 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Marion County list. Start from Red Hill, 2.5 miles down the road. Fayetteville is the closest city, 75 miles away. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include swamp darter, blackbanded sunfish and bluespotted sunfish. Records show what people reported, so treat the list as a guide to what lives in the area. On Pigpen Lakes a short move beats a long cast.
The year swings from about 45°F in January to roughly 80°F in July. Winter is a mild inconvenience here, nothing more. The first and last hours carry the summer; the middle is slow. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. Pigpen Lakes fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the panfish, a small hook, a float and a piece of worm outfish everything fancy. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Kinney Lake sits 0.4 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Pigpen Lakes.
