Glare on the water under a clear sky, with a light chop building from the W with the barometer flat. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Goose Lake. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Goose Lake is a Deschutes County water, in Oregon. The surface lies 4,803 feet up. Small at around 6 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. The closest town, Three Rivers, is 23 miles distant. Further out sit Sunriver (24 miles) and La Pine (27 miles). Not far off: Corner Lake 0.5 miles away, Porky Lake (0.5 miles), Gnat Lake 0.7 miles away, Mud Lake (0.9 miles) and Copepod Lake 0.9 miles away. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name rainbow trout, brook trout and mountain whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Goose Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The range across the year is 27°F to 56°F. The year turns gently, without extremes at either end. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. Autumn steadies things again once the heat lets go. Goose Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out. Wind on the bank for a day or two lifts the fishing there.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. A camping area sits within half a mile of here. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Corner Lake, 0.5 miles away, makes the obvious fallback.
