A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with light air out of the SSE with a settled glass. Fish at Snipe Lake should hold close to reed fringes and open pockets. Plan around the stretch from afternoon into evening. Keep moving until you find them. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Rock County in Nebraska is where Snipe Lake sits. The water sits 2,306 feet up. It measures about 213 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 2.3 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It is among the larger waters listed here for Rock County. Some 16 miles away sits Atkinson, the nearest settlement. Further out sit O'Neill (31 miles) and Ainsworth (32 miles). No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Rock County include common carp, brown trout, green sunfish, rock bass and stonecat. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Snipe Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate normals give 75°F for July and 21°F for January. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late March. Climate averages put the opening at about late March and the closing near early December. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. On Snipe Lake that shapes the whole year.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Otter Lake at 1.7 miles is the sensible second choice. Check the position at Snipe Lake before loading the car.
