A clear night sky over the water, with a mirror surface most of the day and a rising glass. Expect most activity at Young Lake around the margins and the shelf beyond them. If you pick one session, make it the evening. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

In Minnesota, Young Lake falls inside Saint Louis County. This is lake country bush ground. Surface area is around 125 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 2.4 miles of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Eveleth sits 16 miles from here and is the nearest stop. After that come Gilbert at 17 miles and Virginia at 20 miles. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Saint Louis County, recorded fish include yellow perch, northern pike and white sucker. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Work Young Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Average temperature peaks around 65°F in July and bottoms out near 4°F in January. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Young Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Dinham Lake, 2.6 miles away. For Young Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
