Heavy overcast holding through the day, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface as pressure slides. Most of the action on Terry Lake should come off the first drop-off and weed lines. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Terry Lake is one of the Aitkin County waters in Minnesota. Height above sea level is 1,201 feet. At about 78 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. A shoreline of some 1.5 miles keeps the choices simple. For supplies, Aitkin is 6.6 miles out. Crosby is 13 miles and Crosslake 16 miles. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth figures are not published for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Aitkin County cover northern pike, bluegill, yellow perch and black crappie. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Terry Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
In an average year July sits at 68°F and January at 6°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It sets the rhythm of the year at Terry Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Cartie Lake, 0.7 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. For Terry Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
