Open sky and sharp air tonight, with flat calm through the day and a rising glass. Most of the action on Swag Lake should come off shallow cover and weed edges. The day holds up well from morning through afternoon. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Swag Lake sits in Martin County, out in Minnesota. Land around it is pine and birch. At about 117 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 1.7 miles, and most of it is walkable. The closest town, Fairmont, is 11 miles away. Blue Earth lies 17 miles off, Sherburn another 20 miles. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Martin County records list common carp, yellow perch, black bullhead, black crappie and walleye among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Swag Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
The warmest month averages 72°F, the coldest about 13°F. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early April. The lid tends to go about early April and return around early December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Swag Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. You can camp about half a mile away, going by the mapping. Burt Lake County Park covers ground next to the water; its rules will apply on that side. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try East Chain Lake, 2 miles away. For Swag Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
