Solid cloud cover today, with an easy breeze from the SSE with the glass on the way up. Expect most activity at Sprague Lake around the weed line and any gaps in it. A broad window opens from night into morning. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Sprague Lake sits in Rice County, out in Minnesota. The bank is 1,056 feet above sea level. At about 145 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline comes to about 2.2 miles, small enough to learn in a day. The nearest town is Waterville, 4.2 miles away. The big place round here is Rochester, 52 miles distant. A county boundary sits nearby, which can matter for local access rules.
Measured depth reaches about 5.9 feet at the deepest point. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name common carp, bluegill, largemouth bass and black bullhead. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. At Sprague Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The year swings from about 12°F in January to roughly 71°F in July. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early April. Expect the water usable from around early April until roughly late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Sprague Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Sakatah Lake sits 2.4 miles off and takes the overflow. Treat access at Sprague Lake as something to verify.
