Clear conditions and high sun today, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and steady pressure. The water to cover at Otter Lake is the calm side of the wind. The strongest window runs from night into morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Otter Lake belongs to Stearns County, Minnesota. The water sits 978 feet up. With some 97 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 1.9 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It lies lower than most water we list in Minnesota. For supplies, Annandale is 4.5 miles out. After that come Clearwater at 8.5 miles and Saint Augusta at 9.5 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Recorded soundings reach about 57 feet at the deepest point. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Stearns County include largemouth bass, bluegill, northern pike and walleye. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Otter Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Climate normals give 72°F for July and 11°F for January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early April. Break-up sits around early April on average, with the water closing again about late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That shapes the year on Otter Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows a ramp about half a mile from the shore. Expect a half a mile walk in from where the car goes. BJ'S is the mapped fishing point, half a mile out. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lake Augusta, 1.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Otter Lake locally before you travel.
