A crisp, open sky after dark, with air barely moving as pressure builds. Fish at Lake Augusta should hold close to the calm side of the wind. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lake Augusta is one of the Wright County listings for Minnesota. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. With some 161 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Bank access stretches around 2.9 miles in total. It is low-lying compared with other Minnesota water we list. Annandale lies 3.4 miles from the water. Maple Lake lies 9.5 miles off, Clearwater another 10 miles. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
The basin drops to a measured 93 feet. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, yellow perch and common carp. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. At Lake Augusta the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The warmest month averages 71°F, the coldest about 10°F. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early April. From about early April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Lake Augusta runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Boats go in at Bob's Bay, roughly half a mile from the water. Parking sits half a mile out, which makes for a walk with tackle. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Should this one be busy, Otter Lake is 1.6 miles off. Treat Lake Augusta as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
