Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and the barometer heading up. Most of the action on Oreland Lake should come off any hard bottom among the soft. Block out the hours from night into morning. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Oreland Lake is one of the Crow Wing County waters in Minnesota. The surface lies 1,250 feet up. At about 43 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 1.2 miles of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Crosby sits 4 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Aitkin follows at 12 miles, then Brainerd at 14 miles. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Crow Wing County include largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch and northern pike. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The near bank of Oreland Lake is often the one people ignore.
Long-term averages put July at about 69°F and January near 8°F. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid April. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about late November in an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Oreland Lake more years than not.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Vang Lake is 0.4 miles off. Treat access at Oreland Lake as something to verify.
