A grey, even sky over the water, with a proper ripple driven from the SW and pressure leaking away. Long Lost Lake should fish best around the calm side of the wind today. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Becker County end of Minnesota holds Long Lost Lake. The bank gives way to rolling bush. At 376 acres this is proper open water rather than a pond. Size puts it in the front rank of our Becker County list. For a base, Bagley sits 23 miles out. Park Rapids is 25 miles and Mahnomen 27 miles. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Becker County cover bluegill, largemouth bass and walleye. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The near bank of Long Lost Lake is often the one people ignore.
Averages move between 4°F in January and 67°F in July. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid April and starts locking again about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Long Lost Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. There is a launch about half a mile from the bank. The water borders Long Lost Lake South Wildlife Management Area, so expect the reserve rules to apply. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Glanders Lake sits 0.7 miles off and takes the overflow.
