Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a mirror surface most of the day as pressure builds. On Long Lake, work any hard bottom among the soft first. Expect the better fishing from the day. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Minnesota, Long Lake belongs to Lake County. It stands 1,660 feet above sea level. With some 35 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 1.1 miles, small enough to learn in a day. It is high ground by Minnesota standards. Some 13 miles away sits Two Harbors, the nearest settlement. Silver Bay is 24 miles and Arnold 27 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Lake County include white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike and rainbow trout. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. At Long Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The warmest month averages 64°F, the coldest about 5°F. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Anyone fishing Long Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows a jetty some half a mile off. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Black Lake sits 0.6 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Long Lake.
