A closed sky with even light today, with air barely moving with a softening glass. Whatever swims in Highland Lake should be near the shallows early and the drop later. The evening carries the best of the day. Change depth before you change anything else. A hard-frost feel to the day; keep expectations modest.

Highland Lake is one of the Lake County waters in Minnesota. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. The bank runs about 2.2 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Minnesota listings. Two Harbors is the closest place, 13 miles off. Beyond it, Silver Bay at 23 miles and Arnold at 28 miles. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Lake County records list white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike and rainbow trout among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Anyone new to Highland Lake should walk it once before setting up.
The range across the year is 6°F to 64°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Anyone fishing Highland Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public data records a pier about half a mile out. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Twin Lakes is 0.6 miles distant. None of that is settled for Highland Lake in what we hold.
