A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with light air out of the SSW and pressure easing off. The productive water at Little Buck Lake will be around the calm side of the wind. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones.

Little Buck Lake lies in Saint Louis County, in Minnesota. The ground round it is pine and birch. It measures about 36 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The town to know is Keewatin, 11 miles out. Hibbing lies 14 miles off, Chisholm another 15 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Saint Louis County records list yellow perch, northern pike and white sucker among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Anyone new to Little Buck Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Long-run averages give July about 66°F and January about 5°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about late November in an average year. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. At Little Buck Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. McGrady Lake, 0.9 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Little Buck Lake is worth confirming on the day.
