Damp, showery conditions today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the glass slipping lower. Fish at Buck Lake should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Buck Lake in Saint Louis County, Minnesota. It sits in rolling bush. At some 489 acres it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. With 4.5 miles or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Size puts it in the front rank of our Saint Louis County list. Keewatin is the closest town at 11 miles. The nearest city of size is Fargo, 175 miles away. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Saint Louis County include yellow perch, northern pike and white sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Buck Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The seasonal spread runs 5°F to 66°F. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. Open water usually runs from mid April until about late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Anyone fishing Buck Lake regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Little Buck Lake, 1 mile away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Buck Lake are worth checking on the day.
