Rain colouring the margins today, with a whisper of wind from the ESE and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lake Charlotte should be near any hard bottom among the soft. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Lake Charlotte in Wright County, Minnesota. Height above sea level is 942 feet. It measures some 249 acres, and wind has room to build across it. The perimeter runs near 3.4 miles, so plan the walk before you start. It is among the larger waters listed here for Wright County. Hanover at 4 miles is the nearest place to stop. Then Greenfield, 4.3 miles, and Rockford, 4.3 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
The basin drops to a measured 46 feet. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Wright County, recorded fish include largemouth bass, bluegill and black crappie. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Lake Charlotte the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages here run 71°F at the top of summer and 11°F at the bottom of winter. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early April. Ice usually gives way near early April, and forms again about late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. That is the shape of the year on Lake Charlotte.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. A ramp is mapped within half a mile. Expect a half a mile walk in from where the car goes. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Lake Martha at 0.7 miles is the nearest alternative. For Lake Charlotte in particular, ask before you travel.
