A rainy spell sitting over the area, with a decent SE wind working the banks and pressure leaking away. Whatever swims in Juniper Lake should be near the weed line and any gaps in it. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Cook County entry here is Juniper Lake, in Minnesota. The water sits 1,854 feet up. With some 25 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 0.9 miles, small enough to learn in a day. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Minnesota listings. The town to know is Grand Marais, 29 miles out. After that come Ely at 49 miles and Silver Bay at 54 miles. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Public occurrence data for Cook County names white sucker, yellow perch and northern pike. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Juniper Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Long-term averages put July at about 64°F and January near 4°F. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. On Juniper Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Part of this sits inside or beside 3, so read the notices. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Little Copper Lake is 0.6 miles distant. The position on Juniper Lake is worth confirming on the day.
