Overcast skies today, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and pressure easing off. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Junco Lake. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Cook County entry here is Junco Lake, in Minnesota. This is rolling bush country. The water covers some 52 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 1.1 miles of margin, front to back. Compared with other Minnesota water on our list, it sits high. Grand Marais sits 8.3 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Neebing follows at 50 miles, then Silver Bay at 56 miles. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
We hold no depth figure for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Cook County cover white sucker, yellow perch and northern pike. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Junco Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Seasonal averages run from 6°F in January up to 63°F in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Junco Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Pat Bayle State Forest covers ground next to the water; its rules will apply on that side. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Track Lake is 1.3 miles off. Rules at Junco Lake are worth checking on the day.
