Solid cloud cover today, with a kind SSW breeze on the water and pressure leaking away. The water to cover at Mit Lake is shallow cover and weed edges. The strongest window runs from night into morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Mit Lake is set in Cook County, Minnesota. Rolling bush runs right down to the water. With some 88 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Roughly 1.6 miles of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Compared with other Minnesota water on our list, it sits high. Grand Marais lies 12 miles from the water. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 65 miles away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Open biodiversity records for Cook County list white sucker, yellow perch and northern pike. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Mit Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Expect July near 63°F and January near 6°F on the long-run figures. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Mit Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Osprey Lake at 0.6 miles is the sensible second choice. Signs at Mit Lake carry more weight than any list.
