Steady rain over the water today, with a proper ripple driven from the SE with a settled glass. Iron Lake should fish best around structure within a cast of the bank today. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Iron Lake is one of the Cook County listings for Minnesota. Beyond the shoreline you have lake country bush. At about 107 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. At about 6.4 miles of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It is high ground by Minnesota standards. Grand Marais lies 25 miles from the water. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 66 miles away. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
The basin has been measured to about 22 feet. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Cook County records list white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike and rainbow trout among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Iron Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Climate records put July near 63°F and January near 4°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Iron Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
We hold no note on access for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Overnight stays are possible half a mile away. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. West Pope Lake, 0.4 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Iron Lake is worth confirming on the day.
