Flat light and a covered sky today, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and the barometer on the way down. The water to cover at Eastlund Lake is structure within a cast of the bank. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Polk County end of Minnesota holds Eastlund Lake. The bank is 1,296 feet above sea level. It measures about 38 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. A shoreline of some 1.0 miles keeps the choices simple. For supplies, Fosston is 8.6 miles out. Fargo sits 62 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Polk County include yellow perch, brown bullhead, white sucker, northern pike and black bullhead. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Eastlund Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Expect July to average close to 68°F, with January the cold end at about 4°F. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The water is typically free of ice between mid April and mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan around that when you fish Eastlund Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Allen Lake, 0.9 miles away. Where Eastlund Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
