Wind working the surface all day, with a persistent wind from the SSE as pressure slides. The water to cover at Chicken Lake is the seam between weed and open water. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Meeker County in Minnesota is where Chicken Lake sits. The surface lies 1,106 feet up. The water covers some 97 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 2.2 miles of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Litchfield sits 2.3 miles from here and is the nearest stop. After that come Atwater at 9.9 miles and Dassel at 13 miles. No border sits close enough to matter.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Meeker County include largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike and common carp. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. The shape of Chicken Lake decides where the fish sit.
Averages move between 11°F in January and 72°F in July. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early April. Average temperatures cross freezing around early April in spring and again near late November in autumn. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. On Chicken Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The car has to stay half a mile away, which shapes how much tackle you bring. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Hanson Lake at 1.6 miles is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Chicken Lake in what we hold.
