Flat light and a covered sky today, with a working SW breeze and the barometer on the way down. The productive water at Bender Lake will be around inflow corners and shaded margins. Set the alarm around the morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Bender Lake is a Beltrami County water, Minnesota side. It lies 1,214 feet above sea level. The water measures roughly 14 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. Our Beltrami County list holds plenty of bigger water. Start from Little Rock, 4.5 miles down the road. Further out sit Red Lake (8.8 miles) and Redby (13 miles). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Beltrami County cover walleye, yellow perch and northern pike. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Fish Bender Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Between January at about 4°F and July at about 67°F, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. The season on Bender Lake rarely departs from it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Crooked Lake at 1.1 miles is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Bender Lake as something to verify.
