A cloudless sky and strong light today, with a light chop building from the SE and a falling glass. Start the search at Whipple Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Look for Whipple Lake in Newaygo County, Michigan. What surrounds it is mixed forest. It covers about 11 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. The nearest place of any size is Big Rapids, 11 miles away. For a city, Grand Rapids is 55 miles off. Close by you also have: Cole Lake sits 1.1 miles out, Toman Lake (1.9 miles), Guard Lake sits 4.4 miles out, Oxford Lake (4.8 miles) and Toogood Lake sits 5.3 miles out. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Newaygo County include largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch and johnny darter. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Whipple Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Long-run averages give July about 68°F and January about 20°F. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early April. The lid tends to go about early April and return around mid December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Whipple Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Cole Lake, 1.1 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Whipple Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
