Bright, clear skies over the water today, with a light chop building from the WNW and the barometer heading up. The water to cover at Twin Lakes is the weed line and any gaps in it. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Set in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, this is Twin Lakes. The country round it is mixed forest from end to end. At roughly 8 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Grand Traverse County list. Nearest place of any size is Kingsley, 10 miles away. Beyond it, Rapid City at 11 miles and Traverse City at 11 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Grand Traverse County records list rock bass, yellow perch, white sucker and smallmouth bass among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Read Twin Lakes before you fish it and the day goes better.
In an average year July sits at 68°F and January at 20°F. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to mid December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Twin Lakes fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Parking is not close: half a mile from the bank, and no nearer option is mapped. There is a toilet block some half a mile out. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Dollar Lake, 0.9 miles out. Treat access at Twin Lakes as something to verify.
