Fresh rain topping the water up today, with a whisper of wind from the SW and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Tamarack Lake is reed fringes and open pockets. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Tamarack Lake sits in Van Buren County, out in Michigan. The surface lies 781 feet up. It covers about 11 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is a small entry by Van Buren County standards. Start from Otsego, 9.9 miles down the road. Paw Paw is 10 miles away, with Mattawan at 10 miles. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Van Buren County include bluegill, largemouth bass, yellow perch, pink salmon and black crappie. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Anyone new to Tamarack Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Climate normals give 71°F for July and 23°F for January. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Winter locks it down, and late March brings it back. From about late March to around mid December, expect open water on the long-run figures. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Expect Tamarack Lake to follow that timing.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Hemlock Lake, 0.4 miles out. Check the position on Tamarack Lake before loading the car.
