Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW and pressure on the rise. Round Lake should fish best around the weed line and any gaps in it today. The strongest window runs from the day. Keep expectations modest and fish carefully. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Round Lake belongs to Mecosta County, Michigan. Beyond the shoreline you have lake country bush. It measures about 156 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 2.1 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Size puts it in the front rank of our Mecosta County list. The town to know is Canadian Lakes, 2.9 miles out. Further out sit Big Rapids (10 miles) and Lakeview (12 miles). No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Mecosta County list bluegill, largemouth bass, rock bass and black crappie. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The near bank of Round Lake is often the one people ignore.
The year swings from about 20°F in January to roughly 69°F in July. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Break-up comes around early April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice clears near early April and comes back about mid December in a typical year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. It holds true on Round Lake more years than not.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A boat ramp sits half a mile away, so trailered boats can get on. Overnight stays are possible about half a mile out, where camping is mapped. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lost Canyon Lake at 0.7 miles is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Round Lake for certain.
