A still, cloudless night on the water, with a light E breeze with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lake Mohican should be near shallow cover and weed edges. Make the evening the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lake Mohican sits within Livingston County in Michigan. It sits in lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 19 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is a small entry by Livingston County standards. The town to know is Pinckney, 3.7 miles out. Then Whitmore Lake, 6.7 miles, and Brighton, 6.9 miles. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name bluegill, largemouth bass, black crappie and pink salmon. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lake Mohican gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The warm month here averages 71°F; the cold one sits at 22°F. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late March. Open water usually runs from late March until about mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Lake Mohican follows the weather closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. A slipway half a mile out gives trailer access. Expect a half a mile walk in from where the car goes. Mapping shows a jetty some half a mile off. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Cordley Lake, 0.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Lake Mohican as something to verify.
