Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSE with the glass holding level. On Goose Lake, work the shaded margin through bright spells first. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Saint Joseph County entry here is Goose Lake, in Michigan. This is mixed forest country. The water measures roughly 23 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. Schoolcraft lies 4.2 miles from the water. After that come Vicksburg at 4.2 miles and Portage at 9 miles. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Saint Joseph County include bluegill, largemouth bass and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Goose Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
The range across the year is 23°F to 72°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Break-up comes around late March, and the run that follows is short and strong. The water is typically free of ice between late March and mid December. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Goose Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Public data does not answer the access question here. There is a jetty half a mile off, worth knowing on a busy day. This sits inside Spring Creek State Game Area, so read the reserve notices first. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Howard Lake, 0.7 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. For Goose Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
