Open sky and sharp air tonight, with almost no wind to speak of with a softening glass. The water to cover at Barrett Pond is gaps in the weed within a lob. Plan around the stretch from afternoon into evening. Keep moving until you find them. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

This water sits in Worcester County, Massachusetts. Tidal water begins 39 miles from here. For supplies, Leominster is 0.8 miles out. Beyond it, Fitchburg at 4.5 miles and Lunenburg at 5.7 miles. Water in the same corner: Rockwell Pond after 0.5 miles, Distributing Reservoir at 0.8 miles, Morse Reservoir after 0.9 miles, Haynes Reservoir at 1.7 miles and Fall Brook Reservoir after 1.9 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Rip-rap along the wall holds fish that the open bank never does. Built water gives depth close in, which suits a bank angler. Survey and observation records for Worcester County include bluegill, chain pickerel, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow bullhead. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Barrett Pond fishes better once you know its edges.
Expect July to average close to 70°F, with January the cold end at about 22°F. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Count the season from break-up, usually early April. The season between ice runs from about early April to late December. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Barrett Pond the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. You can leave the car about half a mile from the water. A platform or pier sits within 140 yards. There are toilets mapped about 140 yards away. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Rockwell Pond, 0.5 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Barrett Pond for certain.
