Lake Orient is one of the Adair County waters in Iowa. Elevation runs to 1,247 feet. Small at around 21 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Most waters listed here for Adair County are larger. Greenfield is the closest place, 7.5 miles off. Creston lies 10 miles off, Corning another 21 miles. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Adair County cover bluegill, channel catfish, largemouth bass, black crappie and brown trout. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Lake Orient that means starting tight and working out.
Between January at about 20°F and July at about 75°F, the water has a wide range to work through. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Once it clears, about mid March, the fishing comes on quickly. The season between ice runs from about mid March to mid December. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. It holds true on Lake Orient more years than not.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Nodaway Lake, 7 miles out. Check the position on Lake Orient before loading the car.
