A crisp, open sky after dark, with light air out of the WNW with pressure climbing. Expect most activity at Jackson Lake around the shaded margin through bright spells. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Jo Daviess County in Illinois is where Jackson Lake sits. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. The water covers some 67 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 2.3 miles of margin, front to back. For a base, Bellevue sits 5.8 miles out. The big place round here is Davenport, 48 miles distant. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Jo Daviess County, recorded fish include common carp, johnny darter, bluegill and white sucker. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Jackson Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-term averages put July at about 73°F and January near 18°F. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Break-up comes around late March, and the run that follows is short and strong. Expect the water usable from around late March until roughly mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Jackson Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Flat Lake is 0.4 miles off. None of that is settled for Jackson Lake in what we hold.
