Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a helpful ripple pushed from the WNW with a firming glass. Fish at Bonnie Lake should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Night
Set in Jackson County, Bonnie Lake is an Iowa water. The bank is 587 feet above sea level. Around 68 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. It lies lower than most water we list in Iowa. Start from Bellevue, 5.1 miles down the road. Beyond it, Preston at 10 miles and Savanna at 13 miles. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Jackson County: common carp, bluegill, white bass and freshwater drum. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Bonnie Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect July to average close to 73°F, with January the cold end at about 18°F. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Count the season from break-up, usually late March. Averages place the thaw at late March and the freeze at mid December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. The season on Bonnie Lake rarely departs from it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Western Pond at 0.5 miles is the sensible second choice. Rules at Bonnie Lake are worth checking on the day.
