A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a proper ripple driven from the NE and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Sand Lake will be around the seam between weed and open water. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Sand Lake falls in Polk County, part of Florida. The water sits 105 feet up. The water measures roughly 14 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. It is a small entry by Polk County standards. Start from Davenport, 5.3 miles down the road. It is 20 miles to Lakeland, the nearest city. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover largemouth bass, black crappie, blue tilapia and bluegill. Use it to know what is possible here, not what is certain. Sand Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The warmest month averages 82°F, the coldest about 60°F. Year-round warmth means year-round fishing, with early starts in summer. October and November give a second good stretch as it cools. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. It holds true on Sand Lake more years than not.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lost Lake at 0.2 miles is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Sand Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
