A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with a kind NNW breeze on the water with pressure dropping. On Pine Island Lake, work reed fringes and open pockets first. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Pine Island Lake is one of the Lake County waters in Florida. The setting is open low country on every side. This is sizeable water at about 420 acres, and a boat opens up most of it. There is roughly 3.7 miles of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. It ranks high for size among our Lake County listings. Groveland is the closest place, 5 miles off. The nearest city of size is Orlando, 27 miles away. This one is safely inside the county line.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Public wildlife records from this area list bluegill, largemouth bass, redear sunfish, warmouth and black crappie. Records come from public data, not from a stocking programme. At Pine Island Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Long-run averages give July about 82°F and January about 59°F. Cold never becomes a factor on this one. March through May is the strongest run, with autumn a second stretch. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. Expect Pine Island Lake to follow that timing. Warm rain lifts activity; cold rain flattens it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Black Lake at 1.6 miles is the nearest alternative. Check the current arrangement for Pine Island Lake.
