An even grey lid over the water, with a soft WNW wind and the barometer on the way down. Activity on Lake Stone should centre on any hard bottom among the soft. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lake Stone belongs to Escambia County, Florida. Height above sea level is 105 feet. Around 105 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. Around 1.9 miles of margin, front to back. Century lies 1.7 miles from the water. Then Flomaton, 3 miles, and Atmore, 13 miles. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Fish reported in the area, according to open records, include blackbanded darter, largemouth bass and bluegill. It is a record of sightings and surveys, so use it as a guide. On Lake Stone that means starting tight and working out.
Between January at about 49°F and July at about 81°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold never shuts this water down; heat is the only limit. Season rules are a separate question. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer squeezes it into the edges of the day. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Anyone fishing Lake Stone regularly works to that calendar.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. A pier half a mile from here gives a platform over deeper water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Ashton Dead River is 3.4 miles off. Confirm access to Lake Stone locally before you travel.
