Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with steady pressure of wind from the NE and pressure easing off. Start the search at Lake Placid along the weed line and any gaps in it. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Highlands County entry here is Lake Placid, in Florida. The bank gives way to open low country. Surface area runs to some 5.3 sq miles, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. The outline measures near 11 miles, so local knowledge counts. On our Highlands County list it sits near the top for size. Nearest place of any size is Placid Lakes, 2.7 miles away. Lake Placid is 3.9 miles and Sebring 18 miles. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover bluegill, brown darter and largemouth bass. Reporting is uneven, so absence from the list means little. At Lake Placid the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Temperature averages peak at 81°F in August and bottom out at 62°F in January. The water stays warm and open throughout. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to fish here. On Lake Placid the same rules apply, with local timing. Fish feed harder before a change in weather than after it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Grassy Lake at 2.1 miles is the sensible second choice. For Lake Placid in particular, ask before you travel.
