Lake LaChard near Lake Placid: Fishing Spots, Seasons and Access

  Lake LaChard falls in Highlands County, part of Florida. The water sits 10 feet up. This is a pocket water of some 18 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. On size it sits at the modest end of our Highlands County list. Some 0.4 miles away sits Lake Placid, the nearest settlement. It is 62 miles to Lakeland, the nearest city. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.

• Where to Fish on Lake LaChard

  Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records collected within a few miles name bluegill, largemouth bass and spotted sunfish. Take it as evidence of what swims here, not a promise for one session. On Lake LaChard the first feature you find is usually worth a session.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Average temperature peaks around 82°F in August and bottoms out near 62°F in January. There is no dead season here at all. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to fish here. Lake LaChard runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.

• Tackle & Baits

  Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. There is a launch about half a mile from the bank. There is a car park half a mile from the bank. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Blue Lake, 1 mile away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lake LaChard for certain.
