A still, cloudless night on the water, with steady pressure of wind from the NE and pressure sitting still. On Lake Pickett, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lake Pickett is one of the Orange County listings for Florida. Elevation runs to 46 feet. Roughly 763 acres of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. You are looking at roughly 6.5 miles of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Size puts it in the front rank of our Orange County list. Chuluota is the closest town at 2.7 miles. Orlando sits 17 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include largemouth bass, bluegill, hickory shad and redbreast sunfish. It reflects what has been logged, which depends on who was looking. Lake Pickett responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Expect July to average close to 81°F, with January the cold end at about 59°F. Summer is the season to work around, not winter. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Expect Lake Pickett to follow that timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows a ramp about half a mile from the shore. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Lake Drawdy is 1.2 miles off. Where Lake Pickett is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
