A clean, cloudless night over the water, with enough NNE wind to stack food downwind with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Gallup Pond should be near the margins and any overhead cover. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

This water sits in Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region, Connecticut. The bank gives way to rolling hill. The far bank is a conversation away, so keep low and quiet. On size it sits at the modest end of our Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region list. Preston City is the closest place, 5.6 miles off. After that come Ledyard at 5.7 miles and Old Mystic at 5.7 miles. It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name bluegill, black crappie, striped bass and largemouth bass. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Gallup Pond that means starting tight and working out.
Averages move between 27°F in January and 71°F in July. Fishing continues through most of the calendar, with quiet spells rather than closures. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. Plan any trip to Gallup Pond around it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. A car park lies half a mile away, so the walk in is short. The water borders Gladys Foster Preserve, so expect the reserve rules to apply. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Hewitt Pond at 0.4 miles is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Gallup Pond in what we hold.
