A bright day with hardly any cloud, with light air out of the NNE and the barometer on the way down. Fish at Lake Mary should hold close to the calm side of the wind. The best of it runs morning through afternoon. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lake Mary is a Denver County water, Colorado side. The water sits 5,220 feet up. Surface area runs to about 9 acres — small enough to read in one session. Nearest place of any size is Derby, 3.2 miles away. Commerce City is 3.8 miles away, with Welby at 5.2 miles. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Fish documented in Denver County include common carp, white sucker, bluegill, green sunfish and longnose sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Lake Mary decides where the fish sit.
Temperature averages peak at 74°F in July and bottom out at 30°F in January. The freeze here is occasional rather than annual. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. That is the shape of the year on Lake Mary. A steady wind fishes better than a still, bright day.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. There is a car park half a mile from the bank. A jetty or pier is mapped about 90 yards from here. Mapping records toilets within 130 yards. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Landora Lake at 0.3 miles is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lake Mary in what we hold.
