Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with the surface near flat and the barometer heading up. The water to cover at Dude Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. A cold snap day, so work the warmest water you can find.

Look for Dude Lake in the Copper River Census Area part of Alaska. The bank is 3,323 feet above sea level. With some 111 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The shoreline runs about 4.4 miles, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. It is high ground by Alaska standards. The town to know is Deltana, 48 miles out. The big place round here is Anchorage, 192 miles distant. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Copper River Census Area, recorded fish include Arctic grayling, Chinook salmon and round whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Dude Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July near 53°F and January near -1°F on the long-run figures. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Break-up comes around late May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate figures give an open season running late May to mid October. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. The season on Dude Lake rarely departs from it.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Fielding Lake sits 3.1 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Dude Lake before loading the car.
