A soft, muffled morning under mist, with a faint SE drift and the barometer holding steady. The fish at Tay Lake are likely to sit near reed fringes and open pockets. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Tay Lake is one of the Faro waters in Yukon. The water sits 1,195 metres up. Roughly 9.40 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. There is roughly 39 km of bank, and each arm behaves like its own water. Start from Whitehorse, 244 km down the road. Anchorage is the closest city, 944 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Faro: Chinook salmon and Arctic grayling. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The shape of Tay Lake decides where the fish sit.
Climate normals give 11°C for July and -22°C for January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late May. Averages suggest open water from about late May through to roughly mid October. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Tay Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Orchie Lake, 27 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Tay Lake for certain.
