Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a gentle ripple from the ESE and steady pressure. Start the search at Squanga Lake along reed fringes and open pockets. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. A cold snap day, so work the warmest water you can find.

Squanga Lake lies within the bounds of Village of Teslin, Yukon. This is boreal forest ground. This is big water, about 11.29 sq km, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. At about 23 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It is among the larger waters listed here for Village of Teslin. The closest town, Whitehorse, is 82 km distant. Further out sit Skagway (147 km) and Haines (171 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name Chinook salmon, lake whitefish and Arctic grayling. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Squanga Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The year swings from about -19°C in January to roughly 13°C in July. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly early November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. The season on Squanga Lake rarely departs from it.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Summit Lake, 5.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Squanga Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
