Flat light and a covered sky today, with dead-still conditions and no real change in pressure. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Shurr Lakes. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. The cold will pin fish to deeper, stable water.

You will find Shurr Lakes in Haines Junction, Yukon. It stands 1,663 metres above sea level. At roughly 10 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Shoreline comes to about 1.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. Our Haines Junction list holds plenty of bigger water. Supplies mean a trip to Whitehorse, 126 km off. Beyond it, Skagway at 199 km and Haines at 217 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name Arctic grayling, northern pike and lake trout. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Shurr Lakes the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The warmest month averages 9°C, the coldest about -18°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Count the season from break-up, usually late May. The water is typically free of ice between late May and mid October. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Expect Shurr Lakes to follow that timing.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Dullmitt Lake, 10 km out. Check the position at Shurr Lakes before loading the car.
